The Newsletter of Spinnaker Club, Ringwood |

Commodore's Comments Coming towards the end of my first year as Commodore I can now look back and know the Club has had another full programme of successful events enjoyed by all our sailing members, many achieving impressive results. Past commodores have all been successful in driving the Club forward and I believe we have a Club to be proud of. No matter what weather is thrown at us, Spinnaker racing and other activities keep going. As I write this I am conscious that I should be elsewhere, racing on the Solent, but yet again I have had a wasted journey and another race cancelled. The weather this last month has been appalling, but it doesn’t bother us on the Spinnaker Lake. Racing, training, and other activities are very rarely cancelled and this is another aspect that makes the Club unique by its safe sailing environment. Since our last newsletter we have been actively looking for a replacement for Alan Copestake, who has now left our shores to put his feet up in France. CentreBoard reports on progress so far. For those of you who have followed Ian Campbell’s (Past Commodore) saga of the trees, we can now all see the results of his years (well, it seems like years) pushing and negotiating to have the trees down in the South East corner of the lake. There are still a few more to go, but the gap has reduced the wind shelter significantly. We can now systematically manage the rest over the coming years, and improve this area of the lake for sailing. As the main sailing programme for the summer months creeps to a close, so the winter activities come more into their own. Team racing events and trials are hotting up and drawing in a new group of juniors who are practising enthusiastically. We wish them every success in the future. They have a hard act to follow. With the year drawing to a close the AGM is coming up quickly and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there on 5 December. The Dinner Dance on 19 November is also a must. I can promise a very good evening. So see you there! Brian Watkins |

Annual General Meeting The Spinnaker Club AGM will take place at 3.30 pm, on Sunday, 5 December at the Club. This will be immediately after racing and followed by prize giving for Series 5, 6 and 7 and the Club Championship. After that there will be a buffet for all those attending. The AGM allows you to hear how the Club is being run and for you to have your say. The meeting is not usually lengthy or too formal. It is when your Main Committee is elected. We are looking for a new Main Committee member to succeed Alan Copestake who is standing down this year. If you would like to be more involved and would consider standing for the Main Committee, please contact either David Steele or Brenda Jackson at the Club. Nominations for the Main Committee need to be posted by 21 November 2004. David Steele, Hon Sec Prize giving for Series 8 will follow the final race of 2004 on 12 December. Ed. |
